And I get that it’s really unfair that women would just assume that about you. I get that it sucks that sometimes, expressing totally reasonable opinions like “hey you’re hot” will make women terrified of you or furious at you. That’s not fair.
But if you’re going to lay the blame for that somewhere, for fuck’s sake, don’t blame the woman. Blame all the guys who have called her a bitch and a cunt for ignoring their advances. Blame all the guys who may have harassed, abused, or assaulted her in the past. Blame all the people who may never do such a thing themselves, but who were quick to blame her and tell her to just get over it. Blame the fact that if she stops and talks to you and then something bad happens, people will blame her for stopping and talking to you." -

This practically gave me a panic attack just watching. I don’t take transit for this reason, and I still get shit like this just walking down the street. Thank you for recording this. I can’t even move in situations like this.
THIS IS WHY I DON’T RIDE THE BUS ALONE. it’s terrifying to me. i hate talking to strangers it’s so awful. and i feel bad not being able to go anywhere by myself, but i’d rather annoy a couple of my friends than brave this alone.
THIS. fuck it is so goddamn terrifying especially when you’re being outnumbered. sometimes you just have to take transportation alone and when it happens, this is pretty much the gist of it. so don’t EVER tell us we’re overreacting.
Sometimes you have no choice but to take public transit and sometimes you have no choice but to take public transit alone. These factors are not the problem, the individuals who harass are the problem. We shouldn’t have to adjust our routines to ensure our safety. In truth, an adjustment doesn’t even guarantee safety. The only thing that will make us feel safe, is to go out in public without getting harassed. Period. Whether we’re in a group, by ourselves, on a bus, walking to the grocery store, or even parading naked down a street. All people should treat each other with respect.
I had flashbacks watching this. I wish I’d had film evidence of mine, and all women had film evidence of harassment, so we can put an end to the idea that “compliments” on trains from people “just wanting to have a conversation” is bullshit. Street harassment is predatory behavior and not friendly behavior. Fact.
